The phone is available at Telus and will go officially on sale on 13th April 2016. Coming to the specs then the Galaxy J1 features the Exynos 3475 quad-core processor clocked at 1.3 GHz with 1 GB RAM. Well 1 GB RAM is enough for web browsing, WhatsApp chatting and playing several android games with MALI-T720 GPU. However installing too many apps can give your phone serious hiccups. The internal storage is only 8 GB out of which 3.5 GB is user available. The storage can be further expanded to 128 GB via micro SD card.

The Galaxy J1 has basic connectivity options like the Wi-Fi (not dual band), GPS, Bluetooth, FM radio, 2G, 3G WCDMA and 4G LTE. There's no NFC and fingerprint scanner. The battery is 2050 mAh which is removable. There is no fast charging support. You can extend the battery life with power saving and ultra power saving mode. The battery is not that big but it should support USB OTG function. It can power the phone for a day or more with normal usage.

The Galaxy J1 has 5 MP primary camera and 2 MP secondary camera. 5 MP camera being not the best but can take really good photos with a resolution of 2592x1944 pixels. Selfie shots would just come out to be fine. The camera has features like autofocus, LED flash, and a quick launch feature. The screen is 4.5 inches super AMOLED display with a resolution of 800 x 480 pixels and only 245 pixels-per-inch (PPI).

The phone runs on android 5.1.1 Lollipop OS and there is no information about when the Galaxy J1 (2016) will officially receive android 6.0 Marshmallow update in Canada. The phone weighs just 132 grams and is easy to hold in hands for longer times.
