Reasons Why Not To Buy Samsung Galaxy J5 2016

Samsung has just recently launched the upgraded version of Galaxy J5 in the budget android smartphone segment. The new Galaxy J5 2016 come with minor upgrades over its predecessor the J5 2015 version. If we compare both these Samsung smartphones side by side then we can easily tell that there are only minor upgrades. There are no upgrades to the chipset. The newer Galaxy J5 2016 is still using the older Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 chipset that is also being used in the 2015 version of J5.

However you can only notice that the RAM is now 2 GB in the newer model and the screen size has gotten a little bigger by just 0.2 inches. The display technology is Super Amoled and resolution is HD (1280 x 720). The Galaxy J5 is priced at Rs. 13,990. But at this price Samsung is not offering what the phone should offer. If you are going to buy this phone then you should read this post first.

Reasons Why Not To Buy Samsung Galaxy J5 2016

These are some reasons that tell why not to buy Samsung Galaxy J5 2016.

1. Full HD Display: While comparing the Galaxy J5 2016 with the J5 2015 model we found that there is not much difference in the screen of these phones. The newer model increases its screen size by just 0.2 inches while reducing the PPI density. So we are actually getting no upgrade in terms of display. The display technology is Super Amoled which over saturates the colors so they look more bright and vivid. Here Full HD display is still not present. At this price range, you can find Full HD display in Micromax Canvas 6 and Leeco Le 1S which is priced at a much lower price than Galaxy J5.

2. Light Sensor: Galaxy J5 2016 doesn't have an ambient light sensor but it has an outdoor mode which increases the screen's brightness outside. Moto G 3rd Generation and the Moto G Turbo both have an ambient light sensor and they are coming at much lower price than J5 6.

3. Older Chipset: Galaxy J5 is still using Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 which is an outdated chipset. Its 1.2 GHz CPU with Adreno 306 GPU will not deliver great gaming performance. The same chipset can be found in Moto G3 and while playing Modern Combat 5 we found that the game was not running at full resolution. Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 is acceptable with Moto G3 with a price tag of Rs. 9,990 but it is not acceptable with Galaxy J5 with a price tag of Rs. 13,990.

4. Fast Charging: Galaxy J5 doesn't support fast charging. So, charging a 3100 mAh battery with a 5V charger will take around 2 hours to charge completely. At this price range, Moto G Turbo is giving fast charging option which is still not found in most phones which come with a budget price tag.

What's Good In Samsung Galaxy J5

  • Samsung Galaxy J5 2016 is definitely not a value for money android smartphone. But still it has some good features. The 13 MP and 5 MP camera can take good photos. The 5 MP selfie camera equips an LED flash so it is a good phone for selfies in low light.
  • 3100 mAh battery is more than enough to power this phone more than a day. With normal usage, you can easily run this phone for two days. If you enable the Ultra Power Saving mode then you can make the battery run for 3 days or longer with a single charge.

Should You Buy Galaxy J5 2016

If you ask us then we will say that you should not buy Galaxy J5 2016 at Rs. 13,990. It is just another overpriced Samsung phone with almost no new features. Samsung is giving same features in all its phones except the flagships. If you talk about the current price then Galaxy J5 2016 is missing essential features that a phone in this price range should have.

Also, the bike mode in J5 is not much of importance to everyone. You can either consider Moto G 3rd generation which is priced at Rs. 9,990 and providing similar specs with water resistant feature and motion gestures. You can also consider Moto G Turbo with a powerful Snapdragon 615 chipset, IP67 certification and turbo charging at just Rs. 12,499. Finally, you can wait for the launch of Moto G4 on 17th May 2016. It would be coming in two variants. Moto G4 will definitely provide better specs and performance at a lower price than Galaxy J5.
